Location
Shrouded in a palm-tree oasis, this luxurious hotel enjoys a true sense of quiet, bordering a nature reserve. Despite this, there are plenty of bars, cafés and restaurants within easy walk. There’s also the small matter of the five miles of white sands on its doorstep. They also form the famous Dunes of Maspalomas, a series of golden ripples that seem to stretch into the horizon. And, found on Gran Canaria’s southernmost promontory, it’s only a 38 kilometres drive to the island’s airport. You might also want to head inland into Gran Canaria’s mountainous interior, where volcanic landscapes backdrop rural villages.
Accommodation
Parisian architect and designer Alberto Pinto has realised Seaside Palm Beach in delightful retro chic, taking its notes from the bold colours of the 1970s. It’s a sense of style that extends into the rooms where playful contrasts of hues and textures complement the warm colours of the island itself. Each come with complimentary WiFi, satellite TVs and furnished balconies that make the most of either sea or garden views. The suites are particularly impressive, featuring espresso machines, double balconies and truly striking design. The pink has to be seen to be believed.
Dining
Begin the day with a diverse breakfast buffet and end it with the gourmet dining of the hotel’s palm-shaded restaurant. Here, traditional cuisine is presented alongside international offerings, while three evenings a week the restaurant puts on its famous barbecue buffet. Meat, fish and other grilled delicacies form a veritable feast. There are also the Mediterranean delights of nearby Esencia and the tapas bites of La Bodega to keep your tastebuds occupied. Lastly, there’s the African Bar where snacks, homemade cakes, waffles and crêpes are served up poolside.
Facilities
As is a Canaries’ staple, Palm Beach’s spa is a real standout. Alongside a full complement of beauty and massage treatments, its pools, sauna and salt cave are perfect for unwinding after a busy day on the beach. If you’re looking for something a bit faster paced, make use of the fitness centre and floodlit tennis court or take advantage of one of the activities on offer; there’s everything from watersports to table tennis. Or, there’s preferential green fees at the nearby golf courses, with the kids’ club on hand to look after your little one. Lastly, for some evening entertainment, head to the Bar Salón where a range of tempting drinks are served up to live music six nights a week.
