Location
St Moritz enjoys one of the best positions in Queenstown, overlooking Lake Wakatipu to the Remarkables range beyond. It’s often regarded as New Zealand’s outdoors and adventure capital, functioning as a true four-season destination. You’ll be treated to seasonal skiing and snowboarding on routes that thaw into hiking trails while gondola cable cars and the eponymous Victorian park offer more year round enjoyment. Oenophiles shouldn’t miss out on the excellent wine while you won’t need a refined nose to get stuck into the city’s world-class gastronomy.
Accommodation
The hotel’s architecture and interiors firmly place it in Queenstown, featuring local artwork and bespoke furnishings. It’s a true ‘alpine residence’ with rooms handsomely appointed in chic chalet style. Guest rooms all feature king size beds, 40” LCD televisions, iPod docks, Sky TV and complimentary WiFi. You will, however, have to choose from garden, lake and balcony views or whether to upgrade to a suite. These apartment-styled offerings come with one or two bedrooms along with kitchenettes, contemporary detailing and large lounge and dining areas.
Dining
The hotel’s award-winning restaurant, Lombardi, offers a range of dining locations. While you’ll decide between the Bar, Dining Room or Library depending on your mood, you’ll be treated to the same seasonal dining. You’ll tuck into such delights as crumbed pork belly, twice baked cheese soufflé and braised beef cheek, all complemented by wines from the Central Otago region. It’s especially known for its excellent pinot noir. While you’re dining, you’ll also be treated to yet more of those lake views.
Facilities
When you’re not out exploring, be sure to spend your time in the hotel’s terraced garden. Host to two traditional cedar hot tubs, you’ll relax to views of the imposing Cecil and Walter Peaks. There’s also a well-equipped gym on site, featuring a range of free weights and cardio equipment. You’ll also be able to return from a day spent skiing, wine tasting or golfing to the cosy bar and intimate lounge.
