The Wickaninnish Inn or ‘The Wick’ as it is known locally, is a superb resort in the Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It is a member of Relais & Chateaux and highly regarded for its excellent restaurant and spa. During the winter months the Wickaninnish is the perfect spot for storm watchers, while during the summer the driftwood-strewn beaches, whale watching and hiking trails are the main draw.
Location
The hotel is located on Vancouver Island a few miles from the town of Tofino. Most guests self-drive, however it is possible to arrive by air into Tofino from Victoria and Vancouver. If taking the ferry from the British Columbia mainland to Nanaimo, the drive will take around 3 hours once on Vancouver Island.
Accommodation
There are just 75 rooms and suites at the Wickaninnish, located in either At the Point or On the Beach. Regardless of the building choice, all rooms offer either beach views or private balconies, gas fire places, bathrooms that offer bath tubs with a view and a separate shower and all are furnished with local art. Wet weather gear is included for each guest and during the summer months a backpack, beach blanket and towels are available. The Pointe Deluxe West rooms in particular are perfect for those who love to watch the sunset.
Dining
As a Relais and Chateaux property the food here is exceptional and On The Point is one of the best restaurants on Vancouver Island. The food served is Pacific Northwest and the Executive Chef works closely with the Tofino-Uclulet Culinary Guild to source B.C based suppliers for local produce. The Driftwood Café is located at beach level and offers a range of coffees, smoothies and light breakfast items. After 4pm the café offers a west-coast inspired menu of small tasting plates perfect for a casual sharing dinner. On the Rocks Bar & Lounge offers an excellent range of northwest wines and B.C single malt scotches. Room service is available between 7am and 9.30pm.
