West Coast Wilderness Lodge

Location

The Lodge is located in the tiny fishing village of Egmont on the remote and beautiful Sunshine Coast, one of British Columbia’s best-kept secrets. Until the 1960s, Egmont was accessible only by boat, and guests can still choose to arrive by float plane (from Vancouver, Seattle, Victoria or Nanaimo). Alternative routes include a scenic car and ferry trip from Vancouver, which takes about 3 hours in total, or a similar journey via coach (3.5 hours). Egmont itself sits at the crossroads of four major waterways, all containing thousands of islands, bays and coves for visitors to explore.

Accommodation

Exclusive and relatively intimate, the Lodge comprises a cluster of timber-framed buildings containing 26 guest rooms and suites, and all enjoying the natural tranquillity of its wilderness location. All come with private furnished decks, private tiled en suite bathrooms, soft comfortable bedding, wifi, and satellite television. Guests who particularly enjoy a panoramic view should request accommodation overlooking the spectacular surrounding ocean.

Dining

The Inlets Restaurant regularly draws non-resident customers as well as guests for its combination of fresh seasonal cooking of locally sourced ingredients, and remarkable views. Recently named “the best waterfront restaurant in this part of the world” by Pacific Yachting Magazine, Inlets serves breakfast, lunch and four-course dinner and includes abundant outdoor seating, enabling diners to really drink in the renowned scenery around them. Adjacent to the restaurant is a bar and indoor seating area with fireplace. Guests planning a long day outdoors can also pre-order picnic lunches from the Lodge’s kitchen.

Facilities

The West Coast Wilderness Lodge provides the ideal base for exploring the unspoiled and spectacular surrounding forests and waterways. Take a Zodiac tour up to the glacier-cut fjord of Princess Louisa Inlet and pass by ancient rock paintings, sea eagles, and perhaps even a grizzly or two. Hike, bike, or take a boat tour from the serene waters around the Lodge to the world-famous Skookumchuk Rapids, the fastest saltwater rapids in North America. Swim or canoe in the local lakes, or fly by float plane up into the mountains to the turquoise splendour of Phantom Lake. Alternatively, you can stay closer to home and enjoy the range of massage treatments and relaxing jacuzzi of the Lodge’s Eco Spa.
