Coastal Towns

Visit Namibia's Coastal Towns

Introduction

Namibia's coastal towns are a highlight of any Namibia holiday. These former colonial outposts on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean have long drawn explorers and chancers with a frontier spirit.

Luderitz and Swakopmund are noted for their fascinating German colonial architecture and are today popular holiday resorts. Further inland, Kolmanskop is a former diamond mining settlement, now a ghost town at risk of being overrun by the creeping sand dunes. Walvis Bay has changed hands many times since being ‘discovered' by the Portuguese and is a great base for bird watching or venturing into the Namib-Naukluft.
