Introduction
Granada is filled with Moorish architecture, spectacular views and world-class cuisine, its most famous relic perhaps the Alhambra that dominates its skyline along a city hilltop. It all looks over winding cobbled streets dotted with tapas bars, Sierra Nevada mountain views and charming walled-garden mansions.
Alhambra, Granada, Spain
The World Heritage-listed Alhambra fortress and palace is a must-see – it's even visible from many of Granada's streets and squares. That's not forgetting the Palacios Nazaries – palaces built by the Nasrid dynasty – their glorious gardens and the grand Renaissance palace of Charles V.
Granada from above
Albayzin, the old Muslim quarter, is an atmospheric place in which to wander, with its cobblestone streets and carmines – mansions adorned with traditional walled gardens – and cosy teashops. Then there's the imposing Gothic Cathedral, a Renaissance masterpiece, after which the Hammams de Al-Andalus, traditional Moorish baths, provide a wonderful few hours to soak. Finish it all with authentic flamenco in the Albayzin or join the locals at drinks and free tapas bars.
