Introduction
Playa Blanca is a relatively low-key beach resort on Lanzarote's southern tip, with much of its accommodation in luxury villas and private apartments rather than large-scale resort hotels. It's developed rapidly in the last decade, but seems to have settled down now, and the completion of the classy Marina Rubicon to the west of Playa Blanca a few years ago has lifted it further upmarket - with restaurants, bars, boutiques and galleries to be visited around by the water's edge, and private yachts moored in the harbour to admire.
Playa Blanca lies directly across the ocean from Corralejo on the Canary island of Fuerteventura, known for its dramatic white sand dunes. Trips across the channel can be made from the Playa Blanca marina, while another possible excursion is to visit the wild lunar landscapes of Timanfaya National Park, 20 kilometres or so to the north.
