There’s artsy La Boca with its brightly painted houses and the pretty colonial architecture of San Telmo before you reach Recoleta’s grand cathedrals and cemeteries. End with the city’s bohemian markets and the Buenos Aires Design Centre before enjoying a day at leisure and a cabaret show at Faena Hotel. Ushuaia
On day five, you’ll bookend your flight down to Ushuaia with private transfers, arriving in Patagonia’s remote south to spectacular mountain views from your architect-designed accommodation. Here, contemporary rooms, fine-dining restaurants and infinity hot tubs look out to the alpine meadows and jagged peaks that frame the Beagle Channel. You might also want to take advantage of this adventure sports hub; there’s everything from skiing and hiking to sailing and even scuba diving. Or, head out of town on a narrow-gauge, steam railway trip through the surrounding mountains.

Australis Cruises
You’ll board your adventure cruise to a cocktail reception, settling in to enjoy all-inclusive gourmet meals and an open bar – a true contrast to your wild route. You’ll weave through narrow channels, passing great calving icebergs to reach Cape Horn, the very southern tip of the continent. Along the way, you’ll stop for end-of-the-world lighthouses, ancient indigenous settlements, historic radio stations and hikes into wooded mountains. A visit to a cold rainforest and a Zodiac landing at the base of a colossal glacier are particular highlights. It’s all brought to life by expert guides, onboard lectures and the presence of everything from whales and dolphins to condors and penguins.

Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
This morning, you’ll visit either Magdalena or Marta island, the remote home of a penguin and sea lion colony respectively. You’ll then arrive into Punta Arenas where a private transfer – perhaps stopping at a penguin colony on the way – will bring you to your luxury yurt accommodation in Torres del Paine National Park. Over the next three days, you’ll enjoy a full range of included excursions, from hikes to the park’s hidden waterfalls, famed glaciers and 2km-high granite pillars to kayaking, fishing and drives to picturesque lake beaches. Each day, you’ll return to private-terrace views over lakes and mountains along with all-inclusive gourmet dining and open-bar indulgences.

Your next included transfer will see you to El Calafate, the small-town gateway to the magnificent Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. Here, you’ll stay in a spa-furnished retreat, complete with views of Andean peaks and Lago Argentino’s great shimmer. The next day, on a private tour, you’ll visit its most impressive sight – the monumental, 96-square-mile Perito Moreno Glacier. A scenic drive past skittish deer and elusive puma will bring you right up to its 230-foot high face where you can watch as house-sized chunks crack off naturally formed ice bridges.
