The majestic Daugava River divides Riga into two parts, with the city's old town occupying the eastern side. Its here where visitors will find many of Riga's old buildings and churches and also its Grand Christmas Market, located in the beautiful Dome Square in the heart of the old town.
Local handicrafts, handmade decorations, candles, woollen and sheepskin clothing, painted silk and ornate glassware are just some of the items for sale while mulled wine, gingerbreads, tasty Latvian sausages, sauerkraut and smoked meats provide the festive refreshments, making Riga a truly magical place to spend a pre or post-Christmas city break.

Arrive in Riga
Depart the UK for your flight to Riga. On arrival, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the city. Enjoy a cocktail at welcome meeting. The rest of the day will be yours to relax or begin exploring the city.

Riga
Spend the day exploring the beautiful city of Riga and the Grand Christmas market in the historical old town.
Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the old town as you travel by bus and on foot to some of Riga's main attractions, including the Dome Cathedral, St Peter's Church, the Swedish Gate and the Freedom Monument. In the afternoon spend some time shopping at the Christmas market and some of the old towns fantastic boutiques before enjoying a ballet or opera performance at The Latvian National Opera.

Optional excursions
Today you'll have the choice to either spend the day exploring Riga at your leisure or join an optional excursion (extra cost). In the afternoon, perhaps take a tour of Riga's art nouveau district and enjoy coffee and a glass of Riga Black Balsam - a Latvian herbal liqueur - at Café Riga. Dinner at excellent La Boheme is the perfect way to round off the day (extra cost).
