It's that time of year, when everyone begins to think about their resolutions for the new year and for many, that involves travel. Where will you take off to?
We've rounded up our top travel hot spots to visit in 2017 according to our destination experts. All of these places have two things in common: Exciting events, anniversaries and milestones in the new year, and the love of our travel team.
Iran
Earlier this year, British travellers were reintroduced to this Middle Eastern powerhouse when the Foreign Office lifted its ban on travel to Iran. And that has opened a world of opportunities to curious travellers, who can now explore the ancient capital of Persepolis, modern, buzzing Tehran and a country that in recent years has become as mysterious to many travellers as the moon itself.

Speaking of anniversaries, 2017 marks the 70th year since Indian independence and has been designated a 'Year of Culture' by the government. If you haven't been to India before, a trip through the Golden Triangle – Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur – will showcase many of the country's monuments and much of its heritage in a manageable circuit.

Oregon
Oregon has always been a hotspot for nature-lovers, and this Pacific Northwest gem is also going to be a prime place for viewing the first total eclipse of the 21st century. Portland is a warm and welcoming city full of creative types, but get outside the city and you'll find fantastic places to view the eclipse away from city lights.

Finland
Finland was shortlisted by both Lonely Planet and National Geographic Traveler as a top destination for 2017, and we couldn't agree more - we've been sending clients to Finland for years only to have them return bubbling over with enthusiasm. Particularly as a winter holiday spot, Finland offers clear sightings of the Northern Lights, husky sledding, seemingly endless, pristine pine forests blanketed in snow... and it's the official home of Father Christmas. Add in the growing hub of Helsinki as a design destination, and how could you not love it?
