Location
Set on over 45 square miles of expansive, rolling wilderness in Wyoming’s North Platte River Valley, the ranch typifies the American West. Gallop on horseback through pastoral meadows and trek through lush aspen forests all to the backdrop of sweeping views out to the Snowy Mountain ranges. Come winter, guests can enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and even ice fishing. It’s also only 20 miles from the historic town of Saratoga and three and a half hour’s drive from Denver.
Accommodation
In the rooms, rustic meets luxury with a wide range of lodge and cabin residences. Inspired by the original 19th century homestead, log cabins and lodges feature cowhide leather chairs, roaring fires and inlaid buffalo nickels all under gabled roofs. However, there’s also an unwavering commitment to luxury with 400 thread-count sheets on the beds and porches decked in plush furnishings, accompanied by spectacular valley views. For an adults-only retreated, look to Magee Homestead featuring a private pool, spa and guided yoga.
Dining
The lodge’s culinary team showcases traditional American West cuisine while adding a series of gourmet twists. Expect everything from ‘cowboy cookouts’ to decadent multi-course dinner parties. Experience a campfire meal under the stars at the Creekside Dinner Camp – with dishes including whole-smoked suckling pig – or head back inside to the fine dining experience of Trailhead Lodge where meals are complemented with a selection from the 800-bottle wine cellar.
Facilities
With sustainability at its core, the lodge is set up to provide guests with activities that make the most of its pristine natural surrounds. There’s everything from horseback rides and shooting to yoga and fly-fishing. The area’s trails are a particular treat, ranging from morning wildlife walks to all-day epics with mountain bike, river float and ATV adventures in between. Back at the ranch, there’s a full-sized gymnasium for basketball and volleyball while there’s also a selection of traditional lawn games on offer. Lastly, there’s the small matter of the Trailhead Spa, voted the number one spa in the US in the 2015 Condé Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards.
