Australia

A land of icons

Tailor-made holidays to Australia

Introduction

Australia's warm climate, clean air, big skies, pounding surf and huge open spaces are a world away from our own crowded island. It’s a land of warm welcomes and local characters, of broad golden beaches and ancient forests, of Aboriginal mythology and underwater marvels.

Above all Australia is a land of ‘mateship’, where everyone appears to be on first-name terms and nothing is too much trouble. That’s why it creates such incredible memories: the wine you blended with a Barossa Valley master; the luxury train that whisked you from coast to coast; the stars above the Outback that you saw from your swag. Australian wildlife is as diverse as the landscape, and seeing kangaroos, wombats, koalas or emus in places like Kangaroo Island, the Grampians or the Flinders Ranges is always exciting. And, if you thought it was all campsites and barbies by the billabong then you’ll need to think again. Luxury experiences lie all around. Unwrap a gourmet picnic in Tasmania’s Wineglass Bay, enjoy an in-villa massage on the Great Barrier Reef, sip an ice-cool cocktail as you marvel at the sunset over ancient Uluru, or weave among the inlets of the Kimberley coast on an adventurous luxury cruise.

The trick is to plan a holiday that feels like a holiday, rather than a workout. In such a vast country, it’s hard to see everything in one fell swoop, so why not select just a few regions? Allow time to relax, to laze on a beach, let loose in a city or take a long lunch in the shade of a vineyard. To plan your next Australia holiday, browse our itineraries and then give our specialists a call.

Australia's seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere. December to February is summer for much of the country, and the best time for beach or outdoor activities, but this is the wet season in the tropical north. It's also school holiday season, so expect to be joined by plenty of locals. Winter – June to August – is mostly mild, but snowy in the southern mountains and dry and sunny in the northern states. As the low season elsewhere, winter is the best time to visit the Northern Territory, Queensland and the northern part of Western Australia. You'll also be happy to miss out on the Outback's soaring temperatures. At …
