Introduction
Expedition cruises in Northern Patagonia are a memorable way to take in some of Chile's most impressive waterways. The country's stunning Lake District can be accessed from Puerto Montt, one of the main cruise hubs in Patagonia. Scenic lake cruises can be enjoyed on the fan-like glacial Lago Llanquihue, Chile's second-largest lake and fringed by volcanic peaks. A cruise on the lake can be incorporated into a tailor-made tour into neighbouring Argentina, via the Chile-Argentina Lake Crossing.
It's also well worth taking a more extensive cruise into the fjords, bays and inlets to the south of Puerto Montt - and luxury expedition cruises do just that. Expedition cruises pass through the dramatic Golf of Ancud and the Golf of Corcovado on the way to the mysterious, but incredibly beautiful, offshore island of Chiloé. From there, voyages continue through the Pacific Ocean or the Chonos Archipelago towards Puerto Natales in Southern Patagonia.
