Location
Bringing Anantara’s signature brand of authentic luxury to Europe for the first time, this opulent resort enjoys a prime, secluded location on the Algarve coast. While it looks right out over the sculpted curves of the Portuguese Masters’ golf course – reached by a private tunnel – there’s also plenty of Mediterranean charm to take in. Roman ruins frame olive groves and local wineries alike, while a complimentary shuttle sees you to the resort’s exclusive beach club. Relax on golden sands while enjoying delicacies from the pool-side restaurant. You can also ask to be brought to Vilamoura’s nearby marina where jetsetters’ restaurants rub shoulders with trendy bars.
Accommodation
Together, the hotel’s sculptures, paintings and installations make for a gallery of Portuguese artwork that extends into each of the 280 rooms and suites. All also come with a private balcony, complete with daybed to make the most of the Portuguese sun and views of the gardens or golf course. Back inside, you’ll be treated to a pillow menu, Nespresso coffee machine and an open bathroom, its rain shower and soaking tub hidden by sliding blonde timber. What’s more, as with the pools, the resort is split into two wings, providing space for both couples and families.
Dining
Starting with breakfast, Anantara Vilamoura is a truly gourmet affair. Everything is faultlessly fresh, from the fruits and just-squeezed juices to the made-to-order waffles and indulgent baked goodies; the oh-so-gooey custard tarts are a special delight. However, it’s the resort’s signature Emo Restaurant that really stands out, with inventive, degustation menus paired with some 350 sommelier-curated wines. For something more relaxed, take an afternoon tea or Portuguese tapas bite with the golf views before heading poolside for a gourmet snack and something bubbly from the champagne cabana. This being Portugal, there’s also a superb seafood restaurant where the chef cooks up the catch of the day in the show kitchen.
Facilities
As you’d expect from Anantara, you’ll be treated to a full range of world-class amenities. Choose between three perfectly formed pools, play a set on the tennis court or get your fitness fix in the state-of-the art gym. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on the spa, with its superb facilities paired with highly trained therapists. It’s all complemented by a range of experiences, from horse rides, dolphin cruises and visits to local markets to terrace-side yoga, cooking classes and golf clinics. Just remember to find time for the beach club. Lastly, children are equally well catered for, with a full complement of activities led by industry-leading professionals.
