Location
Sited on 27 acres of tropical, landscaped grounds set in the Bagan Archaeological Preservation Zone itself, Aureum is perfectly poised for exploring Myanmar’s premiere attraction. Between the 9th and 13th centuries, some 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and stupas were constructed in just 40 square miles. Today, just over 2,200 remain, poking up out of the plain’s canopy. Summit any for spectacular 360° vistas of monolithic iconography and golden bell spires. And this resort hideaway is just a short distance from some of the area’s most impressive, including Bulethi, ideal for sunset or sunrise panoramas. Back at base, cool off with the lake breeze as you wander under the palm trees of Aureum’s exotic gardens.
Accommodation
And dotted among the resort’s verdure is a selection of grand villa hideaways where polished hardwood, traditional artwork and timber ceilings make for atmospheric stays. Choose between lake views, garden overlooks or even raised vantage points that look out to Bagan’s sights beyond. To make the most of their unrivalled setting, each features a private Jacuzzi, verandah and terrace. Some even come with a swimming pool while its signature accommodation is set on its own island on the lake. If you’d rather stay closer to the amenities, book into a spacious Deluxe Room in the main building, complete with the hotel’s signature Indo-luxury aesthetic.
Dining
Choose between an array of dining options as you’re treated to delights both continental and pan-Asian. At Xanadu, dine on Italian classics and regional delicacies to the backdrop of spectacular pagoda views or enjoy a daung lann multi-course meal as you’re treated to a traditional musical performance. You’ll also have a choice of locations; take your meals poolside, by the lake or in the intimate lounge. Decorated with handcrafted furniture and tropical plants, the latter is ideal for enjoying freshly baked pastries and artisan teas and coffees. There’s even a banquet hall.
Facilities
While the aesthetic is traditional, the hotel’s amenities are nothing short of cutting edge. Make use of the state-of-the-art gym, cool off in the expansive pool or book a treatment in the spa. Here, you’ll enjoy everything from aroma therapy and Thai massages to foot reflexology and beauty treatments in the quiet atmosphere of a replica 11th century temple. Alternatively, unwind in the wonderfully named Hero’s Club, where you can enjoy a craft cocktail including its famous Mandalay Rum Sour.
