Location
Set in beautiful countryside, Lomamokkila is a working farm that’s been welcoming guests for four generations. It’s TripAdvisor’s number one choice for B&B accommodation in and around Savonlinna, an historic old town that occupies three islands in Lake Saimaa, on the eastern edge of Europe’s largest lakeland region. Savonlinna is just 15 minutes by car from the farm, and the national parks of Linnansaari and Koloves are both under an hour away. It’s the perfect stop on a driving route around the shores of Lake Saimaa.
Accommodation
Lomamokkila offers a range of accommodation options. Our favourites are the eight beautiful, timber-built, lakeside cottages, which sleep between two and eight people. The cottages have their own living room, kitchen, sauna, veranda, outhouse, BBQ, beach access, row boat and fishing equipment. If you’re just looking for a room, the main farm building has three twin rooms and a shared bathroom and kitchen. The guesthouse and new guesthouse each offer eight twin/double rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a shared kitchen. The quaint garden house has two twin rooms that share a bathroom. The old storage house has a final two rooms, though their bathroom is in a separate building. Guests in the garden and old storage houses can use the kitchen in the guesthouse.
Dining
Accommodation is on a B&B basis and this being a working farm, there is plenty of fresh produce going into those breakfasts. There is a restaurant on site open from June until August, and a farm shop selling all manner of produce for you to BBQ outside, pack into a picnic to take to the lakeshore, or bring back to your cottage kitchen. Home-reared beef is a particular specialty.
Facilities
There’s both a traditional and a smoke sauna on site. Row boats are free to take out on the lake, and popular summer activities include hiking, cycling, volleyball, tennis and badminton. In winter you’ll find several cross-country ski trails surrounding the farm, as well as snowshoes for hire.
