Location
With as much desert-island charm as it has vowels, the Dhidhoofinolhu Archipelago is the postcard-perfect setting for LUX*. And, this luxury resort enjoys a delightfully secluded setting on South Ari Atoll, a slender islet curve fringed by two miles of powder-fine beaches. Host to its very own five-star PADI centre, the Lux* is also a diver’s and snorkeller’s paradise, complemented by a full spread of water sports. Whether it’s hover-boarding or jet skiing, kite surfing or wakeboarding, fishing or sailing, there’s something for everyone. What's more, it's all reached by a short floatplane hop from Malé.
Accommodation
At Lux*, accommodation comes in the form of 193 private villas, each either strung along the pristine beach or perched on silts over a crystal lagoon. Either on land or water, sunset or sunrise facing, you’ll be able to dive right into bathtub-warm waters. Back inside it’s strictly beach-house chic, with thatched roofs, ultra-contemporary furnishings and bold splashes of colour. There’s also a variety of options available; choose between everything from private gardens and outdoor showers to Jacuzzis, infinity pools and glass floors that look down onto the local marine life.
Dining
A Maldives getaway is all about being spoilt. And, with eight dining venues and five bars to choose from, you’ll be fully indulged, from fine-dining sushi, seafood tandoors and open-kitchen teppanyaki to home-made pasta, pool-side bars and a sophisticated take on a bustling local night market. Throughout, expect only the finest of ingredients, with highlights including Kobe beef and Italian cheeses. It’s all washed down with a fantastic array of watering holes; the cocktails are particularly good.
Facilities
Despite the resort’s secluded setting, there’s a full spread of world-class facilities. There are two infinity pools, floodlit tennis courts and a state-of-the-art gym to choose from, along with a superb menu of treatments from the spa. Just remember to find time to relax on those idyllic white sands. There’s also plenty of little surprises, including island-roasted coffee at Café Lux*, beach cinemas, yoga sessions and bars where chairs swing out over the ocean.
