Location
Sharing an unfenced border with Kruger National Park, Sabi Sand is one of Africa’s, and indeed the world’s, premier game reserves. Here, you’ll be treated to a truly unparalleled safari experience, with the Big Five complemented by a full supporting cast. Indeed, Sabi Sand has long been lauded for its particularly close encounters, especially with the elusive leopard. And, its Bush Lodge enjoys an enviable location, overlooking an exclusive waterhole and surrounded – unsurprisingly – by lush bushveld.
Accommodation
Dating back 35 years, the Bush Lodge is built on a rich safari heritage, evident across its African-chic aesthetic. Expect darkwood campaign furniture, flowing drapes and slowly whirling ceiling fans – assisted by full air-con, of course. It’s a considered sense of style apparent in each of its 25 suites, which include two Luxury Villas where a four-poster bed is paired with everything from outdoor rain showers to views of the waterhole and a private pool. There’s also the Mandleve Presidential Suite, an ultra-luxury offering that mixes in the finest in innovative design.
Dining
While you’ll want to be out exploring, stays at the Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge are also defined by full-board, gourmet dining experiences. Expect chefs to explain the menu, dishes to be exquisitely presented and local, seasonal ingredients used throughout. This being South Africa, strong gamey flavours are among the highlights. There’s also a range of dinner experiences on offer. Perhaps take your meal by the boma fire, under the stars of the bush or, for a touch of elegance, as a lavish banquet accompanied by local Shangaan singers.
Facilities
Your time at Sabi Sabi revolves around twice-daily game drives, with expert guides bringing you out into the reserve and next-door Kruger. Along with tracking everything from elephant and antelope to lion and rhino, they’ll be on hand to keep you informed and even offer their advice on camera settings. Then, back at base, the wildlife experience continues with the lodge’s very own waterhole. And, if you fancy a dip yourself, make use of the pair of swimming pools before retiring with a drink in the lounge or a treatment at the Amani Spa. Lastly, Sabi Sand also features a superb children’s facility.
