Location

Located less than two hours from the lively capital city Reykjavik, Siglufjordur is Iceland’s northernmost town and to this day retains its historic fisherman’s culture. An excellent stopping route on a tour of Iceland, the drive from Reykjavik is an adventure in itself, taking in dramatic Icelandic scenery including mountain passes and lava fields.

Accommodation

Classic rooms face over the marina, with views of the fisherman’s village and the colourful restaurants that line the street. Sleeping two adults with the option to add an extra bed for children, these rooms feature standard hotel facilities including a walk-in shower, toiletries, work desk, comfortable beds, high-quality fittings and a window seat. Choose a Deluxe room for extra space, a balcony with mountain views, a television and coffee machine, or upgrade to a suite for private lounge areas, large balconies and luxurious amenities.

Dining

For light bites, visit the Sunna lobby café and bar, serving everything from burgers, club sandwiches, ribs and Icelandic stews to specialty cakes and coffee. An a la carte menu is served for dinner at the in-house Restaurant Sunna, with a three course menu focusing upon local produce and ingredients to create delicious dishes. Perhaps begin with the Siglo Hotel lobster soup, followed by salted cod with mashed potato, tomato concassse and parmesan cheese, and if you have room, a warm chocolate cake served with ice cream and fresh berries.

Facilties

Siglufjordur town has a number of museums and galleries for tourists to visit, and learn all about the history and culture of this small fishing town. For adventurers wishing to see the best of Siglufjordur’s surroundings, cross country hiking and trails uncover its best gems, including waterfalls, forests and birdwatching spots. If you are looking for relaxation, visit one of the geothermal pools or unwind in the hotel outdoor spa.
