Location
The only upscale resort in the area, Sorrel River Ranch has unbridled access to Utah’s iconic scenery of silver screen fame. The lodge itself is perched on the Colorado River with a post-card perfect backdrop of dark red rocky ranges. If that’s not enough, both the Arches and Canyonlands National Park are within a scenic one-hour’s drive. Explore over 2,000 magnificent natural arches in the former and, in the latter, almost-alien buttes, carved out over centuries of work by rivers and small tributaries.
Accommodation
Spread across 160 acres of Utah ranch-land, each suite comes with either river or mountain views; either way, you won’t be complaining. Lounge chairs and porch swings mean you can make the most of blood-red sunsets with a glass of something chilled. Inside, custom handcrafted furnishings and blonde-wood floorboards mean the rustic ranch aesthetic is far from compromised. Kitchenettes and generously sized baths ensure that you’re a world away from the inhospitable crags outside.
Dining
With many ingredients sourced directly from the ranch’s vegetable garden, the lodge’s kitchens serve only the freshest ingredients with seasonal menus. The signature River Grill Restaurant serves modern food in a traditional setting with dishes such as kale salad, Idaho red river trout and beef tenderloin served with sweet potatoes and jalapeno aioli. Take your meal under Moab’s star-studded skies or in a typically Old West ranch setting, If you’re heading out, enquire about the gourmet lunch packs.
Facilities
To make the most of its national park surroundings, the ranch puts on a range of activities, from horseback riding through plains and hiking through gorges, to white water rafting, mountain biking, canyoneering and hot air ballooning. More holistically, there’s also a petting zoo, yoga, garden tours and art classes. The lodge’s spa, however, is probably its biggest draw offering a range of massages and treatments. For a faster pace, there’s the fitness centre with gym and a pool. Free high speed WiFi is available in all accommodation.
