Santiago
With just one day to explore the capital, a guided tour will take you to Santa Lucía Hill – whose fountains and stairways date back to 1541 – and the Barrio Paris–Londres, home to some of the city’s most impressive colonial-era architecture. You'll stop for coffee at one of the city's notorious café con piernas, visit the cultural district of Lastarria with its galleries, museums and theatres, and explore the lively Vega Chica Market – a hub of bustling commerce where it's possible to buy everything from exotic fish to tasty local street food. It's here that you'll try one of Chile's most popular drinks, Cola de Mono - similar to a White Russian.

Puerto Varas
Leave the city behind as you head south to Puerto Montt and on to Puerto Varas. Known as the ‘City of Roses’, this laid back town is located on the shores of Lake Llanquihue with sweeping views to the conical peak of Osorno. On day two, you’ll pass secluded beaches on the way to the Parc Naçional Vicente Pérez Rosales. Stopping briefly at Petrohué Falls you’ll board a catamaran to sail across Todos Los Santos Lake to the Andean town of Puella Puella, just a stone’s throw from the border with Argentina. The next day it’s off to enigmatic Chiloé Island. After a tour of Ancud, with its museum, fortress and busy market, you’ll visit the island’s west coast to see the only nesting grounds on earth where Humboldt and Magellan penguins breed side by side.

For three memorable days you’ll be based at the Singular Patagonia, a former-abattoir-turned-luxury-lodge on the shores of Last Hope Sound. While its 100 kilometres from the national park entrance, the hotel offers the chance to discover a relatively unexplored part of Patagonia through a programme of activities that includes a boat trip through the fjords, kayaking, hiking, horse riding, fishing (at extra cost), cycling and full-day trips to Torres de Paine. There’s also a pool, a wonderful restaurant and an indulgent spa to help fill any spare hours.
