Introduction
Calitzdorp lies halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The village is the port capital of South Africa and takes pride in its wine industry and world-class port product.
Calitzdorp sits in the fertile Groenfontein Valley and has many restaurants, galleries and plenty of luxury guest houses, while the surrounding hills are popular for fishing, bird-watching, horse riding, scenic 4X4 touring and wine tasting.
From September to November the aloe-clad mountains around the village are bursting with succulent plants.
