Introduction
A small archipelago of just 14 islands situated more than 100 miles from the mainland, Con Dao was formerly a key trading post, established by the East India Trading Company in the 1700s.
More recently the islands have become an important fishing centre for their few thousand residents, who are now opening their doors to tourists.
The majority of the archipelago is a designated national park boasting pristine white beaches, clear warm waters and jagged cliffs and hilltops, coloured with rich vegetation. Hawksbill and green turtles are found within the park, and mangrove swamps, seagrass meadows and coral reefs are home to numerous other species.
