Gyeongsang Province

Visit Gyeongsang Province

Introduction

The Gyeongsang region is made up of two provinces: Gyeongsanbuk-do and Gyeongsangnam-do. It was one the eight regions of Korea during the Confucian Joseon Dynasty, is full of the treasures of the Silla Kingdom's Buddhist culture, and has played a significant role in Korea's recent history.

The area has fine temples (among them Korea's two largest), great beaches and natural springs, as well as mountains and marine parks.

Where to go in Gyeongsang Province

Andong

The traditional houses of the Hahoe Folk Village nestle alongside a gently flowing river (Hahoe means ‘spinning river') amid pretty countryside close to the town of Andong in Gyeongsang province.

Busan

Busan is Korea's principal port and second largest city. It is the gateway to the picturesque islands of the Hallyeo Maritime National Park.

Gyeongju

The capital of the Silla kingdom for almost 1,000 years, Gyeongju is home to more tombs, temples, rock carvings, pagodas, Buddhist statues and ruined palaces, castles and pleasure gardens than anywhere else in South Korea. No wonder it's referred to as ‘the museum without walls'.
