Introduction
Pingvellir National Park is a popular stop-off on the Golden Circle route and adds a dose of history to this scenic tour. At the park's heart is a gorge, lined on either side by craggy outcrops. More than simply a site of geographical intrigue, it's also the site where the original Icelandic parliament was formed, through a gathering of the clans in the 10th century.
This rich history is only part of what Pingvellier has to offer. Surrounded by meandering rivers and waterways this picturesque region offers opportunities for activities such as fishing, horse riding and even diving into the clear waters of the park's submerged rifts.
