Location
200 kilometres above the Arctic Circle, in a village of 900 people in Swedish Lapland called Jukkasjärvi, the year-round ICEHOTEL 365 allows visitors to immerse themselves in nature. Dense coniferous forests make for a peaceful setting for walks and cycle rides, and the hotel is sited right on the banks of the River Torne, a scenic beauty as well as a valuable resource for delectable fresh fish. Daily flights via Stockholm into the nearby airport at Kiruna make it easy to reach from Europe, and there are rail connections as well from Narvik in Norway or Luleå in Sweden.
Accommodation
The ICEHOTEL has been attracting guests from all over the world each winter to stay in its artist-designed rooms, and at the year-round incarnation, guests will experience the same level of creativity with a series of 11 art suites and nine deluxe suites, the latter of which come with a heated ensuite bathroom. Some deluxe suites also have saunas. The rooms are kept to -5°C at all times, and the power is provided entirely using solar energy. You'll receive reindeer skins and thermal sleeping bags to keep you snug at night. If you're looking for a more traditional room, the ICEHOTEL has a selection of 'warm rooms' with ensuite bathrooms, television, WiFi and other amenities.
Dining
The on-site restaurant has long been renowned for its creative use of local ingredients, and with year-round seasonal produce, seafood and game, the restaurant is trying even more new and exciting things with its menu. ICEHOTEL 365 will offer special food experiences throughout the year, such as the opportunity to dine in the middle of the kitchen and watch the staff at work as they concoct their White Guide-listed meals. Visitors can also opt for the four-course Ice Dining experience, where each course features products of the river valley and is served on ice dishes. Or why not go for the even more lavish 12-course tasting menu at the Chef's Table on the Veranda to experience delicious Swedish dishes paired with a world-spanning selection of fine wines.
Facilities
Don't miss the chance to have a drink at the famous ICEBAR, where you can try a classic or bespoke cocktail, served in an ice glass amid surroundings as extravagantly designed as the ice suites. Excursions are available year-round, and in the summer these extend to include river rafting on the Torne, guided walks and treks to the Aptas Mountains and Troll Lake. Or, try fishing, cycling or tree climbing activities such as zip-lining and rope bridges. In winter, of course, it's the thrills of the snow-bound Arctic that take precedence, with everything from husky safaris and snowmobile adventures to winter survival courses, cross-country skiing, reindeer encounters and horseback rides through the frozen surrounds.
