Location
The resort enjoys a peaceful and secluded location in the Maremma countryside, at the foot of gently rolling hills carpeted with olive groves and vineyards. Although not on the coast, it takes just 15 minutes to drive from here to the beach and the charming town of Castiglione della Pescaia, home to a hilltop medieval castle with sweeping views of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The historic city of Grosseto, meanwhile, is also just a 20-minute drive away. L’Andana is accessible by car from several major cities, including Rome (2 hours 20 minutes), Florence (2 hours 10 minutes) and Pisa (1 hour 40 minutes).
Accommodation
L’Andana’s accommodation is split between two main buildings, the La Villa and La Casa, which are connected by the delightful winter garden, the lobby and the reception. La Villa offers 33 spacious rooms and suites, each of which evokes an elegant yet homely ambience with a warm colour palette of ochre-yellow, cream, crimson and white. They range from superior and deluxe rooms to junior, superior and prestige suites, each of which comes with a Tuscan stone fireplace, vintage furnishings and views of the Maremma countryside. La Casa, meanwhile, has 14 rooms and suites, each with a private outdoor area and a well-equipped kitchenette, with wood, leather and marble featuring prominently in the decor. The aromatic scent of the Mediterranean macchia here is unmistakable. There’s also the option of stylish, fully concierge-serviced Il Granaio suites with access to a private pool and patio, as well as La Scuderia, an exclusive, two-storey villa with a private pool and shaded porch.
Dining
Exceptional culinary experiences are central to any stay at L’Andana. The bar is set by La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini, an Michelin-starred restaurant that specialises in innovative takes on classic Tuscan cuisine. Dishes are cooked in an open kitchen using a wood oven and served in terracotta bowls and clay plates in an elegant, wood-beamed dining room overlooking the gardens. Authenticity, simplicity and seasonality are the basis of the exquisite dishes, which include produce freshly sourced from the resort’s own fruit and vegetable gardens, while the vast wine selection features varieties sourced from the vineyards adjacent to L’Andana. Restaurant La Villa is a more casual setting for delicious lunches and dinners in the shade of cypress trees and Mediterranean pines, again with a strong emphasis on Tuscan traditions. Breakfast is also an experience in itself, featuring the likes of freshly baked bread and pastries, fresh fruit, homemade yoghurt, Tuscan cold cuts and cheeses and egg dishes made to order. The chefs can also prepare a Tuscan picnic for you to enjoy in the Maremma countryside.
Facilities
The beauty of L’Andana lies very much in its versatility; you really can strike the perfect balance between exploring and relaxing here. When you’re in the mood for the former, there are opportunities to go cycling and horse riding in the surrounding countryside, or you could head to the coast to discover Maremma’s magnificent beaches. There’s ample scope for sporting activity, too, with a driving range, a tennis court and a superbly-equipped fitness centre on-site.
When you’d rather take it easy, the outdoor pool and surrounding gardens are perfect for relaxing in the sunshine and enjoying quiet moments of contemplation – or you might fancy joining a guided yoga session. And of course, there are the fabulous wellness facilities at the ESPA spa, including an indoor vitality pool, a steam room and soothing, candle-lit treatment rooms where you can indulge in revitalising massages and beauty treatments delivered using premium, natural wellness products such as essential oils, sea salts and herbal extracts.
