Location
Found on the famous Passeig de Gràcia, the Majestic is ideal for those looking to take in Gaudi’s famed architecture. Highlights such as the Casa Batiló’s windowed jumble, La Pedrera’s sweeping roof and his most iconic work – the Sagrada Familia – are just a walk away. Indeed, Barcelona is a city best taken in on foot, immersing yourself in its historic energy – perhaps by wandering the narrow lanes of the next-door Gothic Quarter. Of course Barcelona is also a city of inimitable style and, at the Majestic, you’ll have such luxury names as Chanel, Bulgari and Gucci all on your doorstep.
Accommodation
Having first opened its doors in 1918, the Hotel Majestic exhibits all the charm of Barcelona’s early-twentieth-century renaissance while housing a recognisably contemporary style. Rooms enjoy a relaxed, fresh style, complemented by marble bathrooms that come complete with rainforest showers. And, given its historic building host – the neoclassic façade gives it away – each room is unique. Perhaps it’s these designerly touches that attracted such guests as Jean Paul Belmondo, Milos Forman and the Dalai Lama. You’ll even find a Nespresso coffee machine in every room. For longer stays, perhaps consider one of the generously proportioned suites and apartments.
Dining
This where the Majestic really shines. The eponymous chef of the Can Jubany restaurant has brought the same winning formula to the hotel as he has done in his Michelin-starred Catalan restaurant. Only fresh, seasonal produce is used in menus that combine traditional recipes with cutting-edge innovation. Whether it’s a simple fruit salad or a deconstructed cannelloni, you can expect to discover new, exciting flavours found across the hotel’s collection of dining venues. He brings the same attention to detail to breakfasts too, with spreads promoting a healthy, Mediterranean diet.
Facilities
In a city of iconic skyscapes, Majestic’s rooftop bar is truly stunning. Here, artist murals, a swimming pool and artisan-designed sun loungers all enjoy spectacular views out to Gaudi’s masterpieces. It’s the ideal spot for a Mediterranean snack, a craft cocktail or a vintage from the extensive wine selection. And, given that it’s in the name, Majestic’s spa is equally appealing. Located on the top floor of the building, there’s a full complement of treatments both beautifying and relaxing. A fitness centre is also on hand, with a full range of state-of-the-art machines available.
