Location
Two hours drive south of Sydney, the camp is in the Jervis Bay area of the Shoalhaven region. It’s home to a total of three national parks resplendent with deserted beaches, kilometres of walking trails and a host of wildlife and marine creatures. There’s also Hyams Beach, recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records as having ‘the whitest sand in the world’.
Accommodation
Lodging comes in the form of 12 boutique, en suite canvas tents. Each tent is tucked away in its own corner meaning unrivalled seclusion and uninterrupted views of kangaroos and birds from the comfort of your own porch. Built off the ground with wrap-around decking, they feature full insect screening and are perfectly poised to capture the cooling sea breeze. As an eco-friendly project, heated showers and lighting are powered by solar power alone. The larger deluxe tents come with freestanding baths.
Dining
Guests are treated to a truly unique dining experience in the canopy at The Gunyah Restaurant. Set among the treetops, the restaurant brings you all the sights and sounds of the forest. As you’d expect from Paperbark, the menu showcases excellent local produce and vegetables from the camp’s own garden. A typical menu might include pan seared quail breast with caramelised onion puree or paella cooked fresh in front of you. There are also seasonal fruit breakfasts and cooked-to-order eggs and, in the evening, the sundowner deck is particularly popular.
Facilities
Meandering walking trails through the paperark, gum and mangrove forests are the best way to enjoy the camp’s expansive property. Before breakfast these are a great way of finding kangaroos and, in the evening, you can spot possums by torchlight. Canoes and bikes are provided to explore the waterways where you can stop off for a picnic on the banks on your way to the bay. Finally, massages and beauty treatments are available by appointment or booked in advance.
