Introduction
Luxembourg is so compact that nowhere is more than an hour drive from the capital, Luxembourg City, considered one of the most spectacularly sited capital cities in Europe; climb up to the Citadelle du St Espirit for panoramic views over the city and surrounds.
Yet despite its small size, there are a wealth of landscapes to discover, dotted with fairy tale villages. The country is also fiercely proud; its motto 'We want to remain what we are' is a determined attempt to secure its national heritage.
Travel through the Moselle Valley and visit the wineries along the Route du Vin. Beside the Sure River, a tributary of the Moselle, stands the magnificent 1,000 year old Chateau de Bourscheid, which stands out amidst the large number of impressive castles and palaces packed into the country.
The Ardennes is a scenic area that attracts outdoor enthusiasts keen to explore the forested plateaux, wooded hills and lush valleys here. Mullerthal, known locally as 'Little Switzerland' is also popular with walkers and climbers drawn to the spectacular rock formations and primeval landscape here.
