Introduction
Due to its Arctic location, a visit to Swedish Lapland would not be complete without bedding down in an authentic igloo for the night, and this is exactly what the icehotel at Jukkasjärvi offers. Rebuilt annually out of blocks cut from the Torne River, temperatures in this area can drop as low as -30°C.
The inside of the igloo is relatively warm compared to the surrounding tundra and bears more resemblance to a palace than an igloo, with stunning ice sculptures on show.
The area also offers adventure tours that include dog or reindeer sledding and a chance to see the Northern Lights. Indulge in Lappish dishes at one of the two restaurants in the village and soak up the atmosphere afterwards in the Icebar.
