The AMARA’s grand entrance with its towering height, timber and marble décor, symmetrical ponds, tropical plants and quirky bespoke seating sets the scene. The effortlessly elegant look and sense of harmony carries through to rooms, restaurants and decked poolside areas just metres from the sea shore.
Location
Tucked in between the Mediterranean and the main coastal thoroughfare to central Limassol. AMARA is minutes from the city’s archaeological site of Amathus, which dates to around 1100 BC.
Accommodation
A colour palette of varying shades of cream, together with marble and glass all enveloped in natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows give rooms a sunny and luxurious feel. Heavy wooden doors add to the sense of being cocooned in luxury. Beds are super comfy and topped with crisp white linens and huge pillows. Bathrooms come with walk-in showers, double-size tubs or, in the case of some rooms, especially suites, both. Toiletries are Le Labo amenities. All 207 rooms and suites have a sea view. Balconies have loungers, with larger rooftop suites affording their own private plunge pool and sun terrace.
Dining
The AMARA’s ethos is about enjoying the finer things in life, and this is especially evident when it comes to gastronomy. Matsuhisa Limassol is one of renowned celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s outposts, where he combines cuisine from his native Japan with influences from Peru. His signature dish of miso black cod helped earn him Michelin-star status, and together with rock shrimp tempara, sushi and sashimi, is a stable dish on the AMARA's menu. Sake and cocktails are blended to complement the Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine. Other restaurants at the hotel include the Ristorante Locatelli, created by Michelin-starred Giorgio Locatelli and specialising in Italian cuisine and fine wines, and Armyra by Papaioannou, a dedicated seafood eatery from celebrated chef Giorgos Papaioannou.
Breakfast is served in its own restaurant with terrace, and is nothing short of a feast. Freshly squeezed juice made from delicious Cypriot oranges and a glass of prosecco is brought to your table, after which you help yourself to cakes, cereals, cold cuts and cheese, yogurt and fruit from the extensive buffet. Drinks-wise, there are four bars, including the rooftop bar looking out to sea and a cocktail bar adjacent to Ristorante Locatelli.
Facilities
AMARA Spa features part of Limassol’s ancient city walls unearthed during the hotel’s construction. It is a striking focal point. A menu of holistic body treatments tempt – the spa’s signature collagen-boosting rose diamond dust facial is highly recommended. You'll also find saunas, ice rooms, an indoor pool and open-air infinity pool, plus a gym with views over the gardens, hairdresser and barber, and a nail bar. In the garden there’s a further infinity pool and sun terraces.
