For many, seeing the Northern Lights is a one-in-a-lifetime experience. And there can be few better places to watch the celestial drama unfold than this ranch set amid the Yukon’s pristine landscapes.
Located just 30 minutes from Whitehorse airport, and surrounded by ancient forests and mountain peaks, Boréale Resort is the perfect place to do just that. The lodge’s four homely rooms and two spacious suites come with private balconies, ideal for spotting the aurora. There’s a spa tub, too, which looks out across the valley, a Northern Lights viewing platform and a delightfully cosy lounge tailor-made for evenings of convivial relaxation after days spent snowshoeing, husky sledding and skiing in the wilderness. And, after delicious meals of wild cranberries, elk, salmon and Arctic, the glow of a bonfire welcomes guests outdoors, even on the chilliest nights.
But it's not all about winter. This is, after all, a year-round destination, and when the snow melts, the landscape transforms from icy whites to lush greens, rivers fill with the spring melt and wildlife returns in abundance. And, at the ranch, the activities change, too, with guided hikes and bike rides making the most of the great outdoors which, for a few weeks in the height of summer, is bathed in the ever-present glow of the Midnight Sun.
