Location
Château d'Urspelt is nestled among the rolling hills and valleys of the rural Éislek region in northern Luxembourg. It can easily be reached via a 10-minute bus journey from the nearby town of Clervaux, which is home to an impressive whitewashed castle of its own, originally built in the 12th century and restored after suffering heavy damage during the Second World War. Clervaux is connected by regular trains to and from Luxembourg City – a scenic journey that takes around an hour.
Accommodation
There are 57 luxuriously appointed rooms and suites at Château d'Urspelt, each evoking an ambience of classic elegance and offering views of the inner courtyard or the surrounding countryside. Castle Rooms, located on the ground floor, offer complimentary Wi-Fi, NUXE® Spa bathroom products and tea and coffee facilities as standard, while Superior Rooms also come with air conditioning and a free-standing bathtub. Both of these categories accommodate two guests. Executive Suites, meanwhile, accommodate up to four guests – perfect for families or for couples seeking a more spacious option. The highest category accommodation, the Grand Ducal Suite, is the epitome of serenity and refined indulgence, blending traditional decor and modern comforts across five rooms on the ground floor of the Château. Its standout features include a private dining room, a cosy lounge with an open fire, and a lookout tower offering 270-degree views of the Château and the surrounding countryside.
Dining
The main restaurant at Château d'Urspelt occupies the premises of a historic barn, adorned with glittering chandeliers, exposed timber beams and a separate mezzanine area. An evolving menu is crafted using fresh, seasonal ingredients, with a noticeable emphasis on locally sourced produce – paired with a selection of fine wines, including several Luxembourg varieties. A buffet breakfast is served every morning in the main building, featuring a bountiful spread of fresh bread and pastries, fruit and yoghurt, meats and cheeses, and cooked dishes including eggs, sausages, potato rosties (a Luxembourg speciality) and pancakes. The U-Bar is a delightfully atmospheric spot to relax in the evenings, spread across several warmly-lit rooms in the old cellars, where you can choose from a wide range of cocktails, spirits, wines and beers. Don't forget to check out the library, too – as well as housing an extensive book collection, it doubles up as a plush lounge area serving hot drinks throughout the day.
Facilities
Overlooking the inner courtyard of Château d'Urspelt, you'll find an open-air heated swimming pool flanked by a spacious patio with lounge beds. It's available to use year-round, although considerably more inviting during the summer months. Over the festive period, meanwhile, an ice rink takes centre stage in the inner courtyard, and use of skates is complimentary for all guests. Château d'Urspelt's crown jewel, however, is the NUXE® Spa, a haven of tranquility whose state-of-the-art wellness amenities include steam rooms, saunas, a whirlpool bath and an extraordinary, grotto-themed pool. Access to the spa is included in certain packages, and is otherwise available to all guests for a supplementary fee. A wide range of soothing massages and bespoke beauty treatments is also available.
