Sitting on the shores of Rice Lake, Elmhirst Resort is an enclave of lakeside cottages offering a host of outdoor activities. The land on which the property sits was originally gifted to the Elmhirst family by King George IV in 1818 and the family still own and manage the resort today.
Location
Boasting a beautiful lakeside setting Elmhirst, is about as far removed from city living as you can imagine, yet the resort is less than two hours drive from Toronto and only three hours from Ottawa. Built on 340 acres with a mile of shoreline, the location makes Elmhirst Resort an ideal stop on any Ontario itinerary, situated in Keene, the prettiest town in Canada.
Accommodation
Comfortable country-style cottages with between one and five bedrooms are set either among woodlands or along the lake. Perfect to enjoy the nature along the waterfront, these cottages are fully-furnished and include wood-burning fireplaces, outdoor decks, BBQ and kitchen facilities.
Dining
The Hearthside Dining Room has a strong focus on paddock-to-plate dining and many of the ingredients come from the resort’s own garden and farm. For a relaxed meal head to the Wild Blue Yonder pub which has excellent pub food and showcases local breweries and Ontario wines.
Facilities
When it comes to activities you are spoilt for choice. In addition to all the water-based action, which includes kite and paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking, sailing and water skiing, you can also enjoy horse riding, cycling, numerous hiking trails, snowmobiling, ski trails and scenic flights.
