Location
A listed monument, the imposing façade of this early 1900s palace is among Madrid’s true architectural icons. Built by King Alfonso XIII to mirror its namesakes, the hotel is surrounded by the renowned galleries, museums and restaurants of the city’s cultural epicentre. And, with the green expanse of Buen Retiro Park on its doorstep, it’s perfectly placed to enjoy all the highlights of the Spanish capital.
Accommodation
While the belle époque grandeur of its frontage might grab the headlines, the interiors are just as impressive: majestic halls are hung with dazzling chandeliers, tall windows are dressed in the finest drapes and elegant furnishings, upholstered in rich fabrics, all speak of the wealth and glamour of the building’s royal heritage. Sweeping staircases lead to guestrooms and suites, which themselves epitomise turn-of-the-century European luxury evidenced in hand woven carpets and one-of-a-kind furnishings. From the Superior Rooms, with their marble bathrooms and courtyards views, through to the Deluxe Rooms and Junior Suites, which feature Juliette balconies and historic plaza overlooks, each is decorated to the very highest standard. For the ultimate in regal opulence, look to the suites both Deluxe and Presidential, for opulent living spaces and, in many cases, private French balconies.
Dining
With sumptuous afternoon teas served in The Hall, elegant fine dining dinners at Goya Restaurant & Terrace, light lunches in The Ritz Garden and champagne and caviar at the Krug Bar, each of the hotel’s culinary experiences is befitting of its regal setting. Of particular note, Goya’s old-world charm and avant-garde menus mix elements of classic Spanish cookery with more flamboyant creations influenced by the country’s French and Basque neighbours. Expect flawlessly attentive service and the finest wines from across the Old and New World’s at a restaurant that’s recognised as one of Spain’s finest.
Facilities
After days spent exploring the cultural gems of the city’ ‘Golden Triangle’, the hotel’s Bodyna Wellness Centre provides a haven for rejuvenation and relaxation with everything from treatments and massages to a fully equipped gym and personalised training programmes.
