Location
Kuala Lumpur’s centre, once constructed from wood and thatch, was entirely rebuilt in brick and tile at the end of the 19th century. And, much of its eclectic shophouse architecture remains, today reimagined as cafés, art galleries and fine restaurants. It’s all the evocative setting for the Hotel Stripes. Then, slightly further afield there are the bustling markets of Chinatown, the stunning architecture of the city’s markets and the iconic Petronas Towers.
Accommodation
Hotel Stripes features 184 bespoke rooms and suite, each host to a delightful mix of contemporary design and urban chic. Expect custom furnishings alongside large prints of the Kuala Lumpur of the 20th century. However, there’s nothing dated about it all, with HD TVs, free WiFi and espresso machines included as standard. There’s even a complimentary minibar. Upgrades add in extra space to already-generous sizings.
Dining
Whether it’s a quick café stop or an indulgent evening meal, Hotel Stripes has you covered. The Snug, found on the second floor, is deal for a quick caffeine pit stop, serving up all-day dining menus under its exposed brickwork. However, it’s the Brasserie 25 that demands the most attention, all redbrick arcades, sputnik chandeliers and dark wood floors. As you’d expect there’s a focus on French cuisine, informed by fresh, locally produced ingredients.
Facilities
Saving the best until last, the Hotel Stripes is host to a truly impressive rooftop venue. Here, a bar and infinity-edge pool are treated to spectacular views over the Malaysian capital, dominated by the spindling KL Tower and its iconic Sky Deck. You’ll drink it all in with handcrafted cocktails and cold Tsingtaos, complemented by an impressive snack menu. The impossibly fluffy man tao dumplings are excellent. But, if you’d rather enjoy some exercise with your views, head to the state-of-the-art gym.
