Location
Hotel Villa Athena is situated just 200 metres away from the magnificent Temple of Concordia, right in the heart of the Valley of the Temples. The only hotel with direct access into the archaeological park, it occupies a grand late 18th-century villa with exquisite modern touches, transcending time and summoning 2,500 years of natural beauty, art and architecture. Aside from exploring the surrounding Doric treasures, you’ll want to visit the ancient watchtower of Torre Salsa and the spectacular Scala dei Turchi, a sunbathing and swimming spot where the cliff’s natural stairway served as a landing point for the Moor invasions of the 16th century.
Accommodation
The elegantly furnished, recently renovated rooms and suites retain a homely feel, and all have views of the temples, hotel pool or gardens of lemon, almond and olive trees. Temple View rooms and above have a face-on view of Concordia, and the Villa Suite for up to four guests has a large terrace, spacious lounge and private Jacuzzi.
Dining
La Terrazza degli Dei has a vast terrace for al fresco dining with timeless views over the park and gardens. Choose from extensive and inventive à la carte dishes, or a shared tasting menu of Sicilian specialities. Lighter lunch dishes are also served here, while the Bar Federico II offers day-long drinks and snacks in a sky-lit conservatory or by the pool.
Facilities
The tranquil pool and garden are a superb spot for relaxing, and guests also have access to the nearby beach at San Leone. Cooking classes can be arranged with chef Salvatore Gambuzza, and the spa offers a good range of face and body treatments. A 24-hour concierge service will help arrange local excursions, dinners or beach trips.
