Location
The Chichele Presidential Lodge was built in the 1970s for Kenneth Kaunda, the first Zambian president, and it still retains its original colonial style and furnishings. The lodge is located in the South Luangwa River basin in Zambia, a place of primeval forest and lush savannah that stretched for hundreds of miles and encompasses the Luangwa River basin. The lodge’s hilltop position in the south of the park affords incredible views. The nearest airport is Mfuwe: it takes about 2 hours to transfer from the airport to the lodge in 4X4 vehicles.
Accommodation
There are ten air-conditioned and elegant Victorian style suites in the lodge. They are decorated in an understated colonial style, with large French windows that open onto private terraces overlooking the valley – the perfect vantage point to relax and view wildlife. All also have mini-bars, mosquito nets, hairdryers, in-room safes, and fully appointed en-suite bathrooms with a bath and indoor shower.
Dining
All meals and snacks are included with your stay. Enjoy a continental or full English breakfast before leaving for your morning game drive: why not try the chef’s special Chichele eggs benedict? Lunch and dinner are three-course affairs that are served back at the camp. You can arrange to eat each in a special location, like a romantic dinner under the stars or a bush lunch in a specially selected location. There’s also a delicious high tea and selection of sundowner cocktails on offer.
Facilities
The South Luangwa River basin is considered to be one of the best places for game viewing in the world. It’s home to 60 types of mammals, including elephant, lion, zebra, giraffe, wild dog, buffalo and hippo, all of which you will have the opportunity to see on your twice daily game drives. The lodge also offers walking safaris, an excellent way to experience the sights and sounds of the bush. The facilities at the lodge are a communal lounge, fireplace and bar area, as well as a swimming pool and curio shop.
