Thonga Beach Lodge, Maputuland, KwaZulu-Natal

Location

Set upon the shores of the Maputuland coast in KwaZulu-Natal, the lodge is the ideal place to explore coastal forests, grasslands, bush, lakes and sandy beaches. Thonga Beach Lodge is situated metres from the beach and a 25 minute drive from Lake Sibaya (Southern Africa’s largest freshwater lake) with Durban airport located approximately four hours away.

Accommodation

12 rooms are composed as Deluxe Ocean View Family, Deluxe Ocean View Honeymoon, Ocean View, Forest view and Family Forest View. The thatched en-suite rooms exude a romantic ambience, luxuriously decorated and offer seclusion and privacy. Five rooms feature sea views, whilst the other rooms outlook the milkwood forest. All rooms are built with an open feel and feature a large stone bath, indoor and outdoor shower, a mini bar and private balcony. The ocean view suites are situated raised above with a private pool on deck, offering the best views and a separate living room, making them ideal for families.

Dining

The dining area opens to an expansive wooden deck, allowing guests to enjoy Maputuland’s sultry weather and views. Healthy, sumptuous meals in three courses are served for dinner, often dining al-fresco or on the beach deck by candle light upon the shores of the Indian Ocean.

Facilities

Local guided activities such as forest walks, sundowners and kayaking at the lake and cultural tours can be arranged, or turtle tracking, scuba diving and open ocean experiences are available for an additional charge. Guests are welcome to try their hand at complimentary activities such as fishing, bird watching, snorkelling and visit the wilderness beach or Lake Sibaya now recognised as a World Heritage Site. Other facilities at Thonga Beach Lodge include two swimming pools, curio shop, a wellness centre with spa treatments and a dive centre for water sport activities.
