San Sebastián is an attractive city on the northern coast of ‘El País Vasco' – the Basque Country – with a glorious natural setting on the curving beach of La Concha (‘the shell'), with the Bay of Biscay beyond. Its stunning sandy beaches have made San Sebastián the Basque region's most popular seaside resort and one of Spain's liveliest yet more sophisticated beachside cities.

San Sebastián is also the home to the San Sebastián International Film Festival, an annual festival that has been held since 1953 and is one of the cultural attributes that have resulted in the city being made a European Capital of Culture for 2016.

The city's pretty, old centre is chocked full of restaurants, shops and buzzy cosmopolitan bars, as well as interesting historical and religious landmarks such as the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd and the Spanish-colonial styled City Hall, formerly a casino. It's also worth seeing is the San Telmo museum, housed in a former Dominican convent and featuring works by Ignacio Zuloaga and other Basque artists.
