Introduction
It's a journey that’s won the accolade of the world’s leading travel experience by train seven times, firmly planting it among the world’s greats – and it’s not hard to see why. What makes the Rocky Mountaineer so special, whilst it does boast stunning glass-surrounded décor and impeccable service and cuisine, is its accessibility to scenery otherwise unreachable, affording guests a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
And the rewards are plentiful – Canada’s vast and spectacular landscapes are possibly at their best when taken in via train, from hidden waterfalls to snow-dusted mountains. You’ll speed from bustling harbour cities over mountain ranges, maybe even catching sight of a grizzly bear among the verdant expanse as eagles soar above.
Western Canada is showcased at its very best here, from coastal passages that traverse towards the Rockies and vast ranchlands through gold rush towns to white-water rapids, plunging gorges and passes that take in the majestic Mount Robson. Around every corner, there’s another dramatic waterfall, sparkling lake, vast canyon or dense forest to marvel at. But it doesn’t all lie in the comfort of the cart – step off to spot moose, enjoy helicopter flights and walk along glaciers. Spectacular cable-car rides soar over Banff National Park, and off-road expeditions explore the mighty Athabasca Glacier and icy blue Peyto Lake.
Life on board
With Rocky Mountaineer, you’ll see it all from a glass-domed carriage that provides wonderful viewing opportunities from the comfort of your luxurious train seat, and with all-inclusive drinks and Michelin-trained chefs onboard, offering traditional Canadian fare such as fresh salmon and sourdough flapjacks, every need is attended to.
Silverleaf
Although this is Rocky Mountaineer’s entry-level class, there’s certainly nothing basic about it. You’ll be greeted aboard your panoramic carriage with a welcome toast to the journey ahead before settling down to truly panoramic views, invited in by curved glass ceilings and oversized picture windows. It’s all washed down with indulgent dining, snacks and complimentary drinks – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The impeccable service continues off the train, too, with porterage included throughout your journey.

GoldLeaf
It’s the carriages themselves where GoldLeaf Service really differentiates itself. Split over two levels, passengers are treated to elevated views from wraparound domes while an open-air observation deck is perfect for photographers. Then, alongside the free-flowing snacks and drinks, upgraded meals are taken downstairs, with highlights including berry parfait, merlot-braised ribs and seared Albacore tuna, served over a sautéed pepper and caper ragout. There are even morning scones and afternoon wine and cheeses.
