Lake Como

Visit Lake Como

Introduction

Lake Como, enclosed by rugged peaks, the sloping foothills of the Alps and cosmopolitan lakeside towns of Varenna, Como, Belaggio and Menaggio, is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Italy.

Como, its principle town, is steeped in architectural and historical heritage, which is evident in its buildings, such as the Broletto (town hall), and is home to the most famous of Lake Como's villas: Villa Olmo and Villa Carlotta.

Make your stay on the shores of Lake Como unforgettable with a stay at the grand Renaissance-style palazzo Villa d'Este, a five-star hotel hailed as one of the best in the world.

Bellagio

The charming village of Bellagio is strategically positioned where the three branches of Lake Como meet, at the tip of the Bellagio peninsula that separates its two southern arms. With its panoramic lake views and clear vistas of the Italian Alps, Bellagio is known as ‘the pearl of Lake Como'.

Menaggio

Menaggio is a pretty lakeside town, just a short ferry ride from Bellagio. Its attractive harbour, shoreline promenade and surrounding hills make it a popular destination with visitors to the area. And, for those looking for outdoor activities, look no further as Menaggio boasts an 18-hole golf course and fantastic swimming, water-skiing, mountain-biking and hiking opportunities. From here, you can take boat trips and excursions to the lake's scattered gardens and beauty spots.

Lake Como is most alluring from late April right through the summer months, when the deep lake provides relief on hot, hazy days. But, this destination gets particularly busy during the month of August as resident's of neighbouring Milan flock here to lounge in the lake-side sun, so to avoid the crowds and still revel in the balmy weather, visit in May, June or September. And, it's worth noting that, even in the height of summer, extra layers are always a good idea as due to its alpine location temperatures can cool quite dramatically when the sun goes down.
