West Sweden

Visit West Sweden

Introduction

The picturesque Bohuslän Coast of western Sweden has a large summer tourism infrastructure. However with a range of sights that more than justify the crowds, you'll be surprised by the relative ease at which you'll find a peaceful retreat among the quaint fishing villages and rugged coastlines that pepper this area.

Visit Kosterhavet National Park on Koster Island for a range of outdoor activities as well as opportunities to experience the area's varied marine life. In autumn seafood safaris offer the chance to see your own catch on the evening menu.

The island town of Marstrand is a fantastic place to soak up the atmosphere during its annual July festival, while tranquillity can be found at nearby Carlsten's Fortress or Läck”ß Castle, with its picturesque facades framed against stunning Lake Vanern.

Gothenburg remains one of Sweden's main attractions. Founded in 1621 by King Gustav Adolf, the city contains a number of interesting museums dedicated to art, history, science and culture. With something for everyone, this city is well connected to the rest of the country via rail making it the ideal base for exploring western Sweden.
