History & culture | Natural world | Self-drive
Canada's Yukon is a region of mountains, lakes, glaciers and rivers, home to an abundance of wildlife including moose, elk and grizzly bears. But set against this scenic backdrop, visitors will also discover a rich and varied history, much of which is centred round the Klondike Gold Rush of the late 19th century, when an estimated 100,000 prospectors arrived in search of their fortune. This fly-drive holiday begins in Whitehorse, the Yukon's vibrant capital, known as the 'Wilderness City'. Then, its a journey of ceaseless beauty across the Yukon's magnificent landscapes, taking in the wildlife of Kluane National Park and hopping across the border to Tok, known as the dog-mushing capital of the world. You'll end back in the Yukon, taking in the rich gold rush heritage of Dawson City before completing your loop in Whitehorse.
