Introduction
A visit to Northern Alaska takes you into the Arctic Circle. Admire the beach ridges and mountainous landscape of the protected national parks on a tour north from Anchorage or Fairbanks. And once landed you have a chance to spot polar bears in their natural habitat.
Inuit tribes
On a trip to Barrow (the most northerly point in North America) you'll discover the traditions of local Inuit tribes such as whaling. Or visit other Eskimo settlements in Prudhoe Bay, where the Trans Alaska Pipeline originates.
Dalton Highway
Follow the Dalton Highway to explore the Brooks Mountain Range and visit its villages - Coldfoot, Deadhorse and Wiseman - along the way. Relive the gold-mining times that saw Alaska grow in popularity or stop off at Joy to see the Arctic Circle Trading Post. You'll admire the scenery as you pass the Yukon River on your journey north.
National Parks
Most parks in the north are not accessible to inexperienced trekkers, which makes Kobuk Valley National Park a must see. Visit the sand dunes created by grinding glaciers or witness the migrating caribou along Kobuk River.
