Location
Set on the western boundary of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Leroo La Tau occupies a dramatic location above the Boteti River, one of the only permanent water sources in this arid region. The river acts as a magnet for wildlife, especially during the dry season when vast herds of zebra and wildebeest migrate through. Easily accessed by light aircraft from Maun, the lodge offers a peaceful yet immersive experience in one of Botswana’s lesser-visited safari regions. From the comfort of the lodge or on daily game drives, guests are treated to front-row views of this dramatic and ever-shifting landscape.
Accommodation
Leroo La Tau features just 12 thatched, air-conditioned suites, all raised on wooden platforms and positioned to make the most of the river views. Each suite is elegantly styled with a natural palette of wood, canvas and stone, blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Sliding glass doors open onto private viewing decks, perfect for watching elephant herds or the occasional lion pride pass by. Inside, guests enjoy en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers and plush bedding.
Dining
Meals at Leroo La Tau are enjoyed in the raised main lodge or out in the bush under the stars. The dining experience is warm and communal, expect hearty breakfasts, light lunches and three-course dinners featuring traditional Botswana flavours. Bush dinners and sundowner drinks overlooking the riverbank are regular highlights, offering a magical way to end each day on safari.
Facilities
The main lodge features a spacious lounge and dining area with floor-to-ceiling windows and an expansive viewing deck, ideal for watching wildlife come to drink at the river. There’s also a well-stocked bar, a fire pit for evening storytelling, and a small plunge pool for cooling off during the midday heat. A unique hide built into the riverbank offers a chance to view a variety of wildlife, bringing you eye-to-eye with animals as they come to drink. The camp’s elevated walkways and thoughtful design create a sense of intimacy and uninterrupted immersion in nature.
