Introduction
Mljet Island is the most naturally verdant of all the islands in the Dubrovnik archipelago; the northwest section of the island, the Mljet National Park, is a designated protected area.
Two lakes can be found in this national parkland, which teem with aquatic life and are spots of outstanding national beauty. At the centre of the Great Lake the small isle of St Mary, crowned by a picturesque monastery and church completes the beauty of this tranquil scene.
