Introduction
Although Porto Santo is part of the popular Madeira archipelago, the beauty of this island is little spoken of among tourists, helping it remain one of Portugal's most unspoilt beaches. This island is essentially a strip of land fronted by 9 km of uninterrupted golden sand and even better, this is a beach where you wont have to fight for a spot in the sun.
The volcanic sands found on this island are said to have curative properties making it the ideal spot to settle in for some relaxation. However this island also has something to offer more active visitors and you can scuba dive the crystal clear ocean, take a horse riding tour of the hinterlands, or even pay a visit to the island's first rate international golf course.
