Location
Just a ten-minute drive from town and a 15-minute walk from the two-mile-wide Iguazu Falls, Loi Suites Iguazu lies secluded within the toucan- and butterfly-filled jungle on the banks of the Rio Iguazu. If the Sheraton Iguazu Resort & Spa takes the honours for best views, Loi Suites Iguazu wins hands down for most immersive jungle experience.
Accommodation
The 162 rooms, suites and villas are connected to the communal areas via a series of wooden bridges and raised walkways through the jungle. All the rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows looking right into the rainforest, and all but the lead-in rooms feature a private terrace or balcony. Villas even have outdoor Jacuzzis sunk into their wooden decks. Wooden floors, Indonesian hardwood furnishings and splashes of stone and leather create a stylish look, while WiFi, flatscreen TVs, a well-stocked mini bar and air conditioning bring the comforts of home to this squawking jungle paradise. Crack the windows open at night and you’ll be lulled to sleep by chirruping cicadas.
Dining
There’s plenty of delicious international fare at the Naipi Restaurant, though the more adventurous may wish to try local specialities like surubi (South American catfish) or pacu, a freshwater river fish related to the piranha. Grab a table on the terrace for the best views and ambiance. A selection of light meals and cocktails is also available poolside at the Tiki Bar.
Facilities
We wouldn’t blame you if you spent every day at the falls, although a number of great activities are available through the hotel, including outings by bike and kayak, rainforest canopy tours, and jungle walks. Service is first rate, and staff are very good at pointing out paths known for spotting toucans, butterflies or hummingbirds. Back at the hotel, the outdoor pools – interconnected and lapping at the forest trees around them – take centre stage. There’s also a gym and a well-equipped spa.
